Kirkin O' The Tartan
This year we will host our first annual Kirkin;’ O’ the Tartan on the festival grounds!
Join us on Sunday June 11th at 11:30am on the Tattoo Field. Services will be conducted by Dr. TE Vanbuskirk “Doc Van”
A Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan is best described as a blessing of the clans. Rev. Peter Marshall is believed to be the originator of the Kirkin o’ the Tartan service. During the Second World War, Rev. Marshall held prayer services at New York Avenue to raise funds for British war relief. At one of the services on April 27, 1941 (although a May 1943 date is sometimes mentioned) Rev. Despite its American origin, Kirkin’ services are now being held in Scotland and all over the world. Popular days for Kirkin’ services include St Andrew’s Day, Tartan Day and many Kirkin’ services take place in conjunction with Scottish Festivals.
